Since late 2019, mankind has been confronted with a pathogen for which no effective remedy is known as of yet. Doctors are just as powerless in the face of the increasingly frequent infections with multi-resistant bacteria. The antibiotics that - for decades - put a stop to bacterial infections can no longer do anything against the resistant germs. At the same time, hardly any new antibiotics are coming onto the market. In order to change this, medical experts, scientists and start-ups are working closely together at the Life Science location Basel. The National Center of Competence in Research "AntiResist", headed by the University of Basel, is driving forward the development of new antibacterial agents through innovation.
